Exporting your data

Download a complete archive of your posts, drafts, and media in one zip file. Find this page in the sidebar under Settings → Export.

What the archive contains

An export is a single zip archive containing:

  • Every one of your posts — published, drafts, and pending submissions — as markdown files with a YAML frontmatter block at the top (title, tags, categories, dates, etc.).
  • A media/ folder containing every image and attachment your posts reference.
  • Inside the markdown, all media URLs are rewritten to point at the bundled media/ folder, so the archive is self-contained.

Format and scope aren’t configurable — every export includes everything you own.

Starting an export

Click Start export. The job runs in the background — depending on how much content you have, it can take anywhere from a few seconds to a few minutes. The status moves through Pending Processing Ready.

When the archive is ready, a download button appears on the row in your recent exports. If you ticked the Email me when ready box, you’ll also get an email with the download link.

One export at a time

You can only have one export running at a time. The Start button is disabled while a job is in flight. Once the previous job finishes (or fails), you can start another.

Recent exports

The page shows your last 20 export jobs, newest first. Each row lists:

  • Status — pending, processing, ready, failed, or expired.
  • The number of posts and media files included.
  • The archive size.
  • When the job was started.
  • How long until the download link expires.

Downloads expire after 24 hours

Each finished archive is available for 24 hours and then deleted from storage. If you want to keep a copy long-term, download it within that window and store it yourself. The job row will continue to appear in your recent exports list after the link expires, marked as Expired, so you have a record that the export happened.

Periodic backups

If you want regular off-site backups, set yourself a reminder to run an export every few weeks — exporting is free and the archive is yours.
