Roles & permissions

There are three roles in the dashboard. Each can do a different set of things.

Author

Authors are contributors who write posts. As an author you can:

  • Create, edit, and delete your own draft posts.
  • Submit a draft for review and withdraw it again while it’s pending.
  • Read feedback from editors and resubmit after making changes.
  • Request audio synthesis for your posts.
  • Use the Obsidian plugin to draft offline.

Authors can’t edit other people’s posts and can’t change series, categories, or tags.

Editor

Editors are reviewers. They have everything an author can do, plus:

  • Edit any post, regardless of who wrote it.
  • Approve a submitted post or request changes — see Reviews & approvals.
  • Publish any post directly, without waiting for approval.
  • Manage series, categories, and tags from the Taxonomy section.
  • Mark posts as featured and assign them to a series in the metadata panel.
  • Approve or reject audio synthesis requests submitted by authors.

Admin

Admins have everything an editor can do, plus the platform-level controls:

  • Invite new authors and review contributor applications.
  • Suspend, restore, or change roles on existing authors.
  • Manage the subscriber list and review the audit log.
  • Grant or revoke the direct-publish permission on individual authors.

Direct publishing permission

Authors normally need an editor’s approval before a post can go live. An admin can grant a separate direct-publish permission to specific authors — when granted, the author can publish their own posts without going through review.

You can tell whether you have direct-publish from the editor toolbar: if a “Publish” button appears on a draft alongside “Submit for review”, you do.
